All moored spotters require a surface float. This is a step-by-step guide for attaching the surface float to the sensor node casket.

Surface floats provide additional buoyancy as well as visibility to passing boaters. For further background on surface floats see: Mooring Design and Best Practices for Smart Mooring Section 2.

<aside> 💡 The surface float is a 12” trawl float that provides about 25 lb (11kg) of buoyancy.

Placement:

The surface float should be attached to the first node from the Spotter as shown:

Section 1: Parts

There are two attachment options for the surface float: (1) a thimble-bow shackle attachment and (2) jaw-eye swivel attachment.
