Smart Mooring is designed with longevity in mind but the ocean is a very difficult environment. To reduce the instances of a mooring failure Sofar has the following recommendations for hardware. These items are included with every unit.
Use only 316 stainless steel hardware to avoid galvanic corrosion.
A Jaw-Jaw swivel should always be used to connect the Smart Mooring to the anchor or anchor line. This relieves torsion built up in the mooring. More information on this can be found in the mooring guidelines document here:
A bow shackle OR jaw-jaw swivel can be used to connect to the surface float / surface float line. A swivel does not confer any additional benefits to this but is used in some older designs.
