Your Spotter with Smart Mooring comes pre-integrated with a range of compatible sensors and payloads, offering flexible configurations to match your specific deployment needs. This modular approach allows you to tailor system performance based on the environmental parameters you wish to monitor and your operational objectives.
The Smart Mooring system features configurable sampling intervals and duty cycles, enabling you to optimize data coverage while maintaining solar power sustainability across your deployment timeframe and latitude. By adjusting these settings, you can extend deployment durations while ensuring you capture high-resolution data during periods of interest.
By default, your system is shipped with balanced configurations recommended for initial deployment and evaluation. After your first deployment, Sofar can review your collected data and advise on adjustments to further optimize sampling strategies and system configurations for your specific environment and use case.
During deployment, the Spotter system logs individual sensor readings to its onboard SD card, ensuring full data retention regardless of transmission limitations.
To reduce transmission costs and conserve power, the system aggregates multiple readings into a single sample for transmission. These samples are timestamped and stored alongside the individual readings on the onboard SD card, ensuring all data is accessible for post-recovery analysis.
You can access transmitted samples via the Sofar API and the Spotter Dashboard for real-time and remote monitoring. While both readings and samples can be transmitted, transmission frequency may be adjusted based on your data needs and power or cost considerations, particularly when operating via satellite. This flexible design allows you to effectively balance data resolution, transmission costs, and power consumption to align with your operational priorities and mission requirements.
Finally, the Spotter system includes a configurable samples per report setting, which controls how many samples are collected before the system reports the data remotely. The default value for this setting depends on the attached payloads (for example, current meter = 2 samples per report). This parameter can be adjusted to optimize power consumption and satellite data costs for your deployment. The latest sensor configuration can be seen in the Spotter Dashboard under the settings tab
The Sofar Smart Mooring is compatible with a variety of payloads to enable both out of the box and custom operations. Below is a list of compatible payloads and their specifications:
