Introduction

There is independent firmware running on the Smart Mooring bridge inside the Spotter’s electronics box. This firmware may occasionally require upgrades to support new features along the Smart Mooring bus.

Upgrading the firmware requires partial disassembly of the electronics box. The tools necessary and steps are outlined below.

Tools needed

• 5mm hex wrench / key / driver (one is supplied in Spotter accessories kit)
• Computer (Mac or Windows) with available USB port(s)
• USB cable with USB micro-B on one end:

The process

<aside> 💡 The below process will reset Smart Mooring sampling configurations to their defaults of 10 minute averaging windows with 5 seconds of sampling every minute. If you make use of custom Smart Mooring sampling configurations, please contact [email protected] for assistance in restoring them.

1. Ensure you have the tools listed in the “Tools” section above.
2. Download the appropriate bridge firmware file from the “Downloads” section above.
3. Unzip / extract the download and reveal the contents in a Finder window on your computer.
4. Ensure the firmware updater can get past macOS Gatekeeper by pre-approving it:

5. Remove the transparent Spotter lid and carefully pull the electronics box (ebox) out of the hull. Further details: Removing and Replacing Spotter Electronics Box (E-Box)
