There are many ways to anchor a Smart Mooring. We will be showing one example here as a general reference. Please review the full documentation below prior to designing or implementing an anchor:
Mooring Design and Best Practices for Smart Mooring
If you have any questions or would like to talk to us about moorings, please reach out to [email protected].
There are a few principles that are guiding this example that apply to all Smart Moorings in all environments such as:
Always use 316 stainless steel connection points to and from the Smart Mooring hardware to avoid galvanic corrosion.
Please use the provided hardware whenever possible.
Make sure all connections are properly seized before installation.
It’s helpful to document your mooring prior to and just after installation. Photos and videos of all the hardware will be helpful in many ways!
In this example, we will be using 3x 50lb kettle bells. Sofar recommends 150lbs of holding force or more for coastal deployments.
Attached to the three kettle bells will be the provided 2m stainless steel anchor line. This helps with protecting the mooring near the anchor and also adding a little compliance to the mooring as the waves moving over the surface float above lift up and set down the weighted section.
Also attached to the three kettle bells will be an 2m section 316 stainless steel chain. This is used to hold the two kettle bells together and give a good anchor point to the mooring.
