The Observation Data tab in the Spotter Dashboard gives you graphical representations of all real-time and historical data transmitted by your Spotter via telemetry (i.e., cellular or satellite connection).

Just select a date range to dive into interactive time-series charts for all transmitted data and see the Spotter’s exact location at the time of each observation.

You can download a CSV file for further analysis, or share a link to your current data view to collaborate.

In this guide, you will learn how to access and navigate the Observation Data tab, and get helpful links to additional resources.

Navigating the Observation Data tab

Control bar

Setting the date range

By default, the date range is set from three days ago to the present. To select a specific date range, use the Date range fields or click the >| button to jump to the most recent data.

For the best chart performance, we recommend selecting a time range of six months or less.

Adjusting for configured alerts

You can set alerts to be notified when your Spotter measures a value that is outside of a defined threshold in the Notifications tab. By default, any configured alert thresholds will be displayed as dotted lines on the corresponding charts. To adjust these display settings, click the Chart options button and toggle the options in the dropdown list on or off.

Downloading a CSV file

To download a CSV file containing data for your selected time range (maximum 6 months), click the Download data CSV button. If your Spotter has Smart Mooring, you will be able to select between Embedded history (i.e., surface measurements) or Smart Mooring history (i.e., subsurface measurements) from a dropdown.

Accounts created before February 2025 must switch to the new (recommended) CSV format on the Account page under Display Preferences to enable wider time ranges. Otherwise, the maximum will be 1 month.
