Overview

Your Spotter with Smart Mooring is pre-integrated with a variety of compatible Sensors and Payloads. These payloads have a wide range of configurations, which can be used to tailor performance to a particular deployment. Additionally, the Smart Mooring system has configurable sampling intervals and duty cycles, which can be adjusted to maximize data coverage while preserving required solar power sustainability for a particular deployment time and latitude.

The default configurations on the system from Sofar are balanced settings recommend for an initial deployment and evaluation. After collecting initial deployment data using the default configurations, Sofar can advise on adjusting the configurations per use case and environment.

Basic Operation

The Spotter system will log all individual readings to its on-board SD card. To reduce transmission costs and power consumption, the Spotter system collects multiple readings and aggregates them into a single sample that is reported to the backend and made available in the API.

The Spotter system has a configurable sample duration and sample interval, which can be adjusted to balance data coverage and power consumption.

Finally, the Spotter system has a configurable samples per report, which controls how many samples to collect before reporting the data remotely. The default value for this configuration is dependent on what payloads are attached (Example: current meter = 2 samples per report). This can be adjusted to optimize power consumption and satellite data costs.
