Spotter Data Subscription Overview

An active data subscription is required for remote communication between your Spotter device and the Spotter Dashboard or API. Subscriptions operate on a monthly basis for an entire Spotter account, covering all devices linked to that account.

Without a Subscription ****your Spotter will continue to operate and store all collected data locally on its onboard SD card. However, real-time updates on wave data, device status, and position will not be available without an active subscription.

You can view, manage, and renew your subscription through the Subscription Overview page on your Spotter Dashboard. Multiple subscription options are available, tailored to your device type and the telemetry sources at your deployment site, ensuring reliable and cost-effective connectivity.

Subscription Line Items

The following recurring line items may be included in your data subscription, enabling remote data transmission and seamless access for your Spotter account:

Name	Description
Cellular Line	A right granted to a device or service under the user’s subscription, allowing it to transmit and receive data over terrestrial cellular networks. This access supports data transfer where cellular coverage is available and is managed at the account level.
Satellite Line	A right granted to a device or service under the user’s subscription, enabling data transmission and reception over satellite communication networks. This access provides connectivity in remote or off-grid areas where cellular networks are unavailable and is managed at the account level.
Satellite Credits	A type of consumable credit that represents a single satellite message sent or received by an enabled and active device. Each message deducts one satellite credit from the user’s account balance.

Line Item Consumption

Each Spotter account has one data subscription, which can include multiple line items.
Line items, such as Satellite Credits and Communication Lines, are pooled at the account level and can be utilized by any eligible device within the account.
Satellite Credits are automatically consumed by devices with active Satellite Lines transmitting data via satellite.

Communication Line Management

Users can enable or disable communication lines for each device within the dashboard, allowing control over real-time data transfer.
When both cellular and satellite lines are enabled:
- Priority is given to cellular communication.
- If a device fails to connect via cellular, it will automatically switch to satellite as a fallback option (learn more about fallback behavior).

Getting Started

Every Spotter purchase includes a complimentary subscription designed to provide seamless data transmission. This subscription includes: a Satellite line, a Cellular line and Satellite Credits that are sufficient for approximately 90 days of data transmission under the default Waves:Standard/1hr configuration.

Activation and Duration:

Your complimentary subscription begins the day you register your product(s) to your Spotter account.
Complimentary data services expire 1 year from the product shipment date.
